Take the EPT Online

Test Content for French, German and Spanish

The Entrance Proficiency Test (EPT) for French, German and Spanish consists of three sections: reading, listening, and writing. You are given 50 minutes to complete each section, for a total of 150 minutes to complete the EPT. You will take all three sections online, from any location at any time. You may take the three tests consecutively or at different times. You must take the EPT on a laptop or desktop for French, German and Spanish.

The first section of the EPT is the reading test, which lasts 50 minutes. If you score high enough on the reading test to continue, then you will proceed to the listening test. If you do not score high enough on the reading test to continue, then you will see a message that your EPT is complete, and you will be directed to your test results page to see your course placement.

The second section of the EPT is the listening test, which lasts 50 minutes. If you score high enough on the listening test to continue, then you will proceed to the writing test. If you do not score high enough on the listening test to continue, then you will see a message that your EPT is complete, and you will be directed to your test results page to see your course placement.

The third section of the EPT is the writing test, which lasts 50 minutes. Your writing test result and course placement will be posted on your test results page within five (5) business days of completing the writing test. If results show “Incomplete” for writing, it is because the test has not been graded yet. Please check back later. 

 

Test Content for Somali

The Entrance Placement Test (EPT) for Somali consists of two sections: Vocabulary/Grammar and Reading. You are given a total of 50 minutes to complete both sections of the test. You will take the test online, from any location at any time. You must take all sections of the test in one sitting. You may take the test on a computer (desktop or laptop) or from a smartphone.

The first section of the EPT consists of multiple-choice questions regarding vocabulary, grammar, and sentence topics. If you score high enough on the vocabulary/grammar section to continue, then you will proceed to the reading section. If you do not score high enough on the vocabulary/grammar section to continue, then you will see a message that your EPT is complete and you will be directed to your test results page to see your course placement.

The second section of the EPT consists of multiple-choice questions regarding reading tasks. This is the last section of the test. When you are finished, you will see a message that your EPT is complete and you will be directed to your test results page to see your course placement.

 

Test Content for Hindi and Urdu

The Entrance Placement Test (EPT) for Hindi and Urdu consists of two sections: Grammar/Reading and an oral proficiency interview. You are given a total of 55 minutes to complete the first section. You can take the first section of the Hindi or Urdu EPT from any location at any time. You may take the test on a computer (desktop or laptop) or from a smartphone. The oral proficiency interview may be in-person or remote, dependent on the interviewer.

The first section of the EPT consists of multiple-choice questions regarding vocabulary, grammar, and reading tasks. If you score high enough on the grammar/reading section to continue, then you will be instructed to schedule your oral proficiency interview. If you do not score high enough on the grammar/reading section, then you will see a message that your EPT is complete and you will be directed to your test results page to see your course placement.

The second section of the EPT consists of an oral proficiency interview. This is the last section of the test.

 

Test Results

For French, German and Spanish: Results from EPT reading and listening are posted approximately 2-3 hours after completing the test.  If results show "Incomplete," please check again in an hour. Results from the EPT writing test will be posted on the Language Testing Program’s website within five (5) business days of completing the test. If results show “Incomplete,” it is because the writing test has not been graded yet. Results will not be emailed to you. Check your results using the “View My Results” link.

For Somali: Course placement results will be posted on the Language Testing Program’s website within five (5) to ten (10) business days. Results will not be emailed to you. Check your results using the “View My Results” link.

For Hindi and Urdu: Course placement results will be posted on the Language Testing Program’s website within five (5) to ten (10) business days. Check your results using the “View My Results” link.
