Fall Test Registration & Dates
- Registration starts: November 1, 2023 (online)
- Registration ends: November 20, 2023 (online)
- Test dates: November 27 - December 1, 2023 (in-person, Jones Hall - East Bank)
- Results by December 21, 2023
All four parts of the LPE (listening, reading, speaking and writing) are available in this test session for the following languages: Arabic, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Somali, Spanish and Urdu (please inquire about other languages).

When is the LPE offered?
The LPE is offered at various times throughout the academic year. Below is the general timeline for each language. Please contact us if you have any questions.
French, German, and Spanish LPEs:
- At the beginning and end of fall semester,
- At the beginning and end of spring semester,
- and once during the summer
Portuguese LPE:
- At the beginning and end of fall semester,
- and the end of spring semester
Arabic, Hindi, Somali, and Urdu LPEs:
- At the beginning and end of fall semester,
- and at the beginning and end of spring semester
Italian and Korean LPEs:
- At the end of fall semester,
- and the end of spring semester
Hmong LPE:
- At the beginning of fall semester,
- and at the beginning of spring semester
Hebrew and Japanese LPEs:
- Only at the end of spring semester
Chinese, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, Russian, and Swedish LPEs:
- At the beginning of fall semester,
- and at the end of spring semester

Past LPE Dates
Early August Test Session
- Registration starts: July 12, 2023 (online)
- Registration ends: August 2, 2023 (online)
- Test dates: August 4 - 24, 2023 (remote testing)
- Results by August 25, 2023
Two parts of the LPE (listening and reading) are available in this test session for the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, Finnish, French**, German*, Hindi, Hmong, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Somali, Spanish*, Swedish and Urdu (please inquire about other languages).
Note for early August testing: All four parts of the LPE (listening, reading, writing and speaking) will be offered for German and Spanish. For French, only listening, reading and writing will be offered during this session. The French OPI (speaking exam) will be available during the next registration period from August 23 - September 6.
Welcome Week / Beginning of Fall Semester Test Session
- Registration starts: August 23, 2023 (online)
- Registration ends: September 6, 2023 (online)
- Test dates: August 28 - September 8, 2023 (in-person, Jones Hall - East Bank)
- Results by 3 business days (not including weekends or holidays) after completing all 4 parts of the LPE for Spanish, French, and German; depending on the language, results may take up to two weeks.

Remote Testing: Where is my Zoom link?
LPE Speaking Test (OPI)
You will receive an email from [email protected] with instructions and the Zoom link 1-2 days before your scheduled test. Please double check your spam folder.
LPE Reading and Listening Tests
The Zoom link will be made available to you in Canvas on the day of the test, once you have completed all the preparatory steps. Please make sure you have completed all steps in order.
Remote Testing: What does Online # mean? (LPE Speaking)
Online # (ex. Online 1, 2, etc.) is only for internal registration purposes. Please know that your speaking test will be remote, and you will receive an email from [email protected] with instructions and the Zoom link 1-2 days before your scheduled test. Please double check your spam folder.
